Review Policy

Reviews make up a big part of GameSpew’s content.

All members of the team have a hand in reviewing games. We’re all different people with different interests, and so that means that one member of the team may score a game differently than another person would. Games are always reviewed fairly, and the final number given in a review is always representative of our thoughts on the game as best as it can possibly be.

We review a game based on our experience playing that game. We do not let external issues impact the score we give a game.

Reviews are always impartial. We have never and will never accept payment for reviews.

Our review scale

We review games on a 10-point scale, with 1 being the worst and 10 being the best a game can possibly get. Our scale is as follows:

  1. Unplayable
  2. Awful
  3. Bad
  4. Sub-par
  5. Mediocre
  6. Decent
  7. Good
  8. Great
  9. Outstanding
  10. Phenomenal

What games we review

GameSpew aims to review as many games as possible. But we’re a small team, so it’s impossible to ever review everything we’d like to. We review a healthy mix of major game releases and indie games.

Hardware reviews

We do review hardware, and you can find those reviews here. We do not give scores to these reviews.

Where to find our reviews

GameSpew’s reviews can be found on the website in the reviews category.

We’re also aggregated on Metacritic and Opencritic. Our VR reviews are aggregated on VR Game Critic.
