Xbox Has Introduced a New Enforcement Strike System

Xbox

Xbox has introduced a new enforcement strike system, which aims to make playing online safer and more inclusive for everyone.

Like before, players are encouraged to report violations of Xbox’s community standards. And, as usual, these will be reviewed by the Xbox Safety Team. Now though, if it is found that a player genuinely has committed a violation, enforcement action will involve strikes depending on the severity of the player’s actions.

Players found to be cheating or using profanity, for example, will be awarded one strike. And for that, they’ll be suspended from Xbox’s social features for one day. Those engaging in hate speech, however, will receive three strikes, excluding them from Xbox’s social features for three days or more.

You see, strikes are cumulative, and each strike remains on a player’s record for six months. The more strikes a player receives, the longer the suspension will be. If a player accumulates 8 strikes, they’ll be suspended from Xbox’s social features, including multiplayer, for a full year. Thankfully, players can keep track of their enforcement history, viewing information about any strikes they have accumulated.

Xbox hopes this new system will give players a better understanding of enforcement, and perhaps motivate them to be better when playing online. Whether it will work remains to be seen. In any case, data and updates will apparently be shared in the company’s bi-annual transparency report. Ultimately, behave yourself online, and you won’t have to worry about anything.
