The Walking Dead: Betrayal Will Blend Zombie Killing and Social Deduction

The Walking Dead: Betrayal

Announced today, The Walking Dead: Betrayal is a zombie survival game with the twist that, living dead aside, you’ve also got traitors to deal with with.

That might sound familiar if you’ve played Project Winter, but there’s a reason for that. The Walking Dead: Betrayal looks to be a sequel with the The Walking Dead licence. And we’re absolutely here for that.

That’s not just because we got a kick out of Among Us. Even before that game came out we were happily betraying people in the Dead of Winter board game, which pre-dates Among Us by a good four years.

Supporting up to eight players, The Walking Dead: Betrayal will challenge you to survive a zombie apocalypse. The twist is that several of your number could be out to feed you to the shamblers.

It’s set in rural Canada, which doesn’t rule out snow being an issue, and players will have to undertake various tasks to stay alive. The traitors, on the other hand, will be looking to stall those tasks.

We’re hoping there’s the option to accidentally turn off the electric fence and then run like hell. Though with the living dead, there’s always the chance that your sabotage could end with you becoming zombie food.

Published by Skybound Entertainment and developed by Other Ocean Interactive, The Walking Dead: Betrayal doesn’t have a solid release date as yet. It’ll be coming to PC and we wouldn’t be surprised if, like Project Winter, it ended up on console.

There’s a beta taking place this August 10th which will let you get a taste of the game. You can apply via its Steam store page here.

Weekend Editor // Chris has been gaming since the days of the Acorn Electron, which was allegedly purchased to 'help him with his homework'. You can probably guess how well that went. He’ll tackle most genres – football titles aside – though he has a taste for games that that are post-apocalyptic, horror-oriented or thought provoking in nature.
