EVO 2023 Reveals Two New Mortal Kombat 1 Fatalities

Mortal Kombat 1 Fatalities Johnny Cage Frost EVO

EVO 2023 has given Mortal Kombat 1 fans a glimpse of two new MK1 fatalities.

These two Mortal Kombat 1 fatalities haven’t officially been unveiled by MK1 developer Netherrealm Studios. Instead, they were captured by a fan attending this weekend’s EVO 2023 fighting tournament.

Don’t worry, they didn’t kick down a door and tie Ed Boon up. The tournament floor features a playable version of MK1 and it’s this that the footage was captured from. The fatalities in question are delivered by Johnny Cage and Frost and they’re deliciously gruesome.

We have EVO attendee and competitive gamer HellaLarry to thank for this. They recorded the footage on the show and then posted it to their YouTube account. Granted, it was filmed with a mobile but you can still make out every chunk of flying flesh.

We’ve seen parts of Johnny Cage’s fatality before but HellaLarry has captured it in all its glory. The fatality, which you can watch here (it’s currently age restricted), has Johnny slamming his opponents into a Hollywood Walk-of-Fame Star or its MK1 equivalent. Then, and this is the bit we haven’t seen before, he takes a selfie with their now faceless corpse.

Frost’s fatality, which you can see below, sees this Kameo fighter freezing her opponent then smashing their torso. This leaves them with their relatively undamaged hands, head and feet attached to a skeleton. We wonder what Accident & Emergency would make of that one?

EVO 2023’s Mortal Kombat 11 tournament took place yesterday, with professional MK11 player Ninjakilla_212 coming out on top. And there was certainly an expectation that there’s also be an MK1 trailer dropping during the event.

However, the official Mortal Kombat 1 Twitter account has since confirmed that there’ll be a reveal tomorrow. We’ll keep you posted. In the meantime, check out our preview of this upcoming brawler.

He’ll tackle most genres – football titles aside – though he has a taste for games that that are post-apocalyptic, horror-oriented or thought provoking in nature.
