Last week, Larian Studios shared a “special leave” notice: a humorous way to tell your boss you’re taking time off work to play Baldur’s Gate 3. And today, that notice has been translated into a dozen more languages.
We’re lucky: playing games is our job. But it wasn’t always. And back in the days when we worked in boring, non-videogame related industries, we ab-so-lute-ly used annual leave to stay home and play games. And when something as huge and exciting as Baldur’s Gate 3 comes along, you’re probably going to want some time away from your job to get lost in its massive, massive world. Developer Larian Studios knows that, and that’s why it’s made an “official” special leave form.
“I, the undersigned, hereby request a Special Dispensation from my regular duties and obligations in observance of the momentous occasion of the release of Baldur’s Gate 3,” the form says. “[…] I seek the understanding and support of the company and humbly request the opportunity to participate in adventuring parties across the Forgotten Realms.”
We’re not exactly sure how handing this form over to your boss might go down, but we really, really hope some people try. The reaction of your boss is probably going to depend on how, er, hip and cool they are. But we feel like, without taking your company’s official routes for applying for time off, the answer’s going to be a big, fat no.
Hi, Larian’s legal team here. Launch day is nearly upon us.
Have YOUR Baldur’s Gate 3 adventuring plans been thwarted by the forces of obligatory labour?

If you do feel like trying it for yourself, you can download the special leave form from here. Along with the original English form, it’s also available in 12 other languages: traditional Chinese, simplified Chinese, Polish, Latin American Spanish, Russian, Ukrainian, Spanish, Turkish, Italian, French, German and Portuguese.
